Employment Opportunities

Pharm D. Clerkship
Outcomes™ offers PharmD. Clerkships which provide student pharmacists with the opportunity to interact and contribute with the Outcomes team. Clerkships are typically 4 or 5 weeks in duration and feature experiences in MTM, managed health care, marketing, and administration.

This clerkship is an excellent opportunity for PharmD. candidates interested in business, pharmacy benefit management or the pharmaceutical industry. Candidates should be self-motivated, as the clerkship requires students to work independently on assigned projects and to exhibit ingenuity in the creation of projects. Candidates should also advocate the delivery of MTM services and be competent in pharmacotherapy. This PharmD. Clerkship is an approved elective rotation for the University of Iowa and Drake University colleges of pharmacy and available through other colleges of pharmacy via special arrangement. Dual major PharmD/MBA, MPA, or JD candidates are strongly encouraged.

Normal business hours for PharmD. Clerkship students are from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday thru Friday. Hours may vary greatly with evening, early morning, and/or weekend hours required from time-to-time. Attire for the clerkship is primarily business casual. From time-to-time, meetings may require professional business attire. Casual attire is permitted on Fridays unless a meeting requires otherwise.

Advanced Pharm D. Clerkship
Student pharmacists with previous managed health care experience have the opportunity to participate in an Advanced PharmD. Clerkship. Students enrolled in this program will make site visits to pharmacies to evaluate the current systems in place to deliver care-based services at their site. Site visit activities include workflow analysis, member identification, test claim procedures, claims reconciliation, and organization techniques. Advanced clerkship students will also review claims to assess and improve quality of care within Outcomes' participating pharmacies. The advanced clerkship may serve as a continuation of the introductory Outcomes clerkship, involving more in-depth, hands-on site development to directly impact patient care.

Clinical Services Residency
Outcomes' Clinical Services Residency offers a unique learning experience on how pharmacists can impact the rising cost of health care by providing patient oriented, care-based services. Goals of this residency include account management, marketing and communication, pharmacoeconomic data collection and analysis, claims assessment, development and implementation of MTM programs, development and administration of research projects, training of pharmacists and support staff, and serving as a preceptor to PharmD. Clerkship students.

Candidates for residency must possess a Doctor of Pharmacy degree from a school of pharmacy accredited by the American Council on Pharmaceutical Education (ACPE) and be eligible for licensure in Iowa.

Outcomes-CIMUC Executive Internship
The Outcomes-CIMUC Executive Internship is offered in conjunction with the University of Iowa’s Center for Improving Medication Use in the Community (CIMUC). The program offers pharmacy students the opportunity to gain executive-level experience over the course of an intensive 14-week summer program. The internship is available to P1 or P2 students at the University of Iowa College of Pharmacy. The intern will spend approximately one-half of his/her time developing a special project aimed at improving medication use. The remainder of the time the intern will gain experience in the business activities of Outcomes Pharmaceutical Health Care.
